Case Study: Sun Group – Northern Superchargers

The Challenge

To advise Sun Group, one of India’s largest media conglomerates and owners of SunRisers Hyderabad in the IPL, on the acquisition of a Hundred franchise.

Oakwell's Role

Oakwell was appointed as Sun Group’s exclusive corporate finance advisor for the transaction and initially produced a detailed qualitative and quantitative assessment of all eight Hundred franchises and their associated Host Counties, including a full valuation analysis of each franchise. Based on this insight, Oakwell advised Sun Group on a shortlist of preferred targets and facilitated initial meetings with the management teams of these franchises to assess alignment on vision and strategy. Oakwell then guided Sun Group through the competitive auction process, helping to structure and position its bid effectively. Throughout the final stages, Oakwell provided full support on legal and commercial negotiations, working with Charles Russell Speechlys to ensure a successful closing of the deal.

Result

In August 2025, Sun Group completed the successful acquisition of 100% of the Northern Superchargers. This made Sun Group the only investor to hold full ownership of a Hundred franchise.
